SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA men's tennis team continued its torrid spring, defeating No. 54 Old Dominion on Thursday afternoon, 4-3, in a match that went down to the final set. UTSA has pushed its win streak to eight in a row and defeated its fifth ranked team of the season.
The Roadrunners (10-4) took a 3-1 lead in the match, earning the doubles victory and winning two singles matches in dominating fashion. The Monarchs (8-7) rallied with two straight singles victories to tie the match up at three-all before Alan Magadan came through in the clutch, beating Francois Le Tallec (6-2, 4-6, 7-5).
Today's match also featured a contest between UTSA Greek houses. Kappa Sigma showed up with the highest turnout among participating organizations and will now have their letter displayed on the tennis center fences for the remainder of the season.
Doubles
UTSA won its second straight doubles point on Thursday afternoon, claiming two of the three matches to secure the point. Jackson Ross and Garrett Skelly were the first to finish on court three, as the pair of Roadrunners knocked off Yanis Moundir/Brandon Perez (6-4). UTSA's top-billing pair of Tiago Torres/Magadan fell on court one to Jakob Cadonau/Luca Maldoner of ODU, 6-3. The doubles point came down to the final matchup on court two and it was a doozy. Tomás Pinho/Sebastian Rodriguez were matched up with the Monarchs' Francois Le Tallec/Cosme Rolland De Ravel. Their matchup went the distance, needing a tiebreaker, as UTSA pulled off the win 7-5 to take a 1-0 advantage.
Singles
Danijal Muminovic got the singles action started for UTSA, as he was the first to complete his match, defeating Nicola Vidal (6-2, 6-3) to give the Roadrunners a 2-0 lead from court six. Court five was next to finish as Cadonau ousted Skelly (7-5, 6-0) and the Roadrunners found their lead cut in half, 2-1. Rodriguez made short work of his opponent, Codie van Schalkwyk, on court three (6-2, 6-4) to push the Roadrunners to match point. Old Dominion made its run though, rattling off two singles in short order as Rolland De Ravel defeated Pinho (77-61, 6-3) and Lalami bested Torres (6-4, 4-6, 6-1). With the teams knotted up at three-all, it came down to the aforementioned Magadan who ousted Le Tallec in three sets, winning 6-2, 4-6, 7-5.

The Roadrunners will continue their homestand, welcoming No. 28 VCU to the UTSA Tennis Center on Sunday morning at 11 a.m. It will be the fifth straight ranked squad that UTSA has played in the last six matches.
