Carreon ties for 10th, UTSA places 13th at Chattanooga Classic

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Camryn Carreon tied for 10th place to lead the UTSA women's golf team to a 13th-place finish at the Chattanooga Classic, which concluded Tuesday at Council Fire Golf Club (par 72/6,209 yards).
 
Carreon recorded an even-par 216 in the 54-hole tournament to settle into a four-way tie for 10th in the 96-person field. The senior from San Antonio entered the final round in 15th at 2-over par after registering a 73 on each of the first two days. She carded a 2-under 70 on Tuesday to end up in the the top 10 for the second straight event, fifth time this season and 12th time as a Roadrunner.
 
A product of Incarnate Word High School, Carreon started her final day on No. 13 with a par. After taking a bogey on 14, she bounced back with a par followed by back-to-back birdies on Nos. 16-17. She logged two additional birdies against just one bogey to finish the day at 2-under. In fact, Carreon birdied three of the four par threes today to finish with eight for the week, while she accumulated 39 pars, the third-best total in the field.
 
The Roadrunners registered their second 297 in a row after opening with a 312, finishing 13th with a 906, eight shots ahead of Middle Tennessee and 12 in front of Old Dominion. UTSA was only five strokes out of the top 10 in the 18-team field won by No. 28 SMU with a 14-under 850. Xavier (+6), Augusta (+9), USF (+11) and Notre Dame (+12) rounded out the top five.
 
Daniela Abonce was the next highest-placing Roadrunners, tying for 31st with a 7-over 223. The freshman from Veracruz, Mexico, opened with rounds of 76 and 72 before posting a 75 that was highlighted by a birdie on the 361-yard par-4 third hole.
 
Morgan Ellison tied for 74th with a 235 (82-73-80), while Hunter Nugent (81-80-76—237) and Olivia Williams (82-79-76—237) closed out the UTSA lineup.
 
The Roadrunners will travel to Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, for the Conference USA Championship on April 13-15 at PGA National Resort.
