DALLAS — UTSA sophomore Jemuel Miller has been named Conference USA Male Field Athlete of the Week for the third time this year, the league office announced Tuesday.
Miller skipped to yet another podium finish in the triple jump last Saturday at the Texas Invitational in Austin. The sophomore All-American finished third overall and second among collegiate competitors behind only Florida State's Jeremiah Davis after recording a mark of 15.50 meters (50-10.25) despite a 3.4 meters-per-second headwind.
Earlier this outdoor season, he won the triple jump at the UTSA Invitational with a 15.54m (51-0) leap and he finished second at the Longhorn Invitational after measuring 16.03m (52-7.25).
The Barbados native and three-time conference champion currently ranks 17th nationally with his league-leading jump of 16.08m (52-9.25) from the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays earlier this season.
This marks the Roadrunners' ninth weekly award this year, including the sixth during the outdoor campaign. Miller (3/21), Jacob Jenkins (3/28), Jack Turner (4/18) and Dylan James (4/25) all were named C-USA Outdoor Male Field Athlete of the Week, while the 4x200-meter relay team of Brice Chabot, Dennis Phillips, Trevion McCalla and Mike Roth earned the C-USA Outdoor Male Track Athlete of the Week honor on April 4. Miller also collected the weekly field award indoors on Feb. 7 — and he owns four during his UTSA career — while Oreoluwa Adamson and Christiaan Le Roux swept the C-USA Indoor Field Athlete of the Week accolades on Jan. 17.
Alaba Akintola of Middle Tennessee earned the C-USA Male Track Athlete of the Week honor, while UTEP's 4x100-meter relay team and Arianne Morais swept the female awards. The C-USA Track & Field Athlete of the Week awards are presented by Blenders Eyewear.
The Roadrunners will return to action on May 11-14 at the C-USA Outdoor Championships in Denton, Texas.
