UTSA drops series finale to Louisiana Tech

RUSTON, La. – The UTSA baseball team dropped its series finale to Louisiana Tech, 7-5, on Saturday afternoon at J.C. Love Field. 
 
QUICK HITS

  • Each of Antonio Valdez, Josh Killeen, Matt King and Shane Sirdashney collected a hit to extend their reached base streaks to 15, 19, 10 and 12, respectively. 
  • Taylor Smith also extended his reached base streak to 13 games with a hit by pitch.
  • The Roadrunners fell to a 38-17 overall record (21-8 in C-USA action), while Louisiana Tech improved to 27-29 overall (15-15 in conference play). 

 
BREAKDOWN OF THE GAME
The Roadrunners used two errors to bring home Valdez and King and take an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. 
 
The Bulldogs didn't take long to tie it up at 2-2 with a solo home run and RBI single in the bottom of the frame. Louisiana Tech then took the 5-2 lead with three runs scored in the bottom of the second. 
 
Daniel Shafer entered the game in the bottom of the third and forced a scoreless frame with two strikeouts. 
 
Another solo home run by Louisiana Tech's leadoff hitter Dalton Davis gave the Bulldogs a 6-2 lead. 
 
Daniel Garza forced two scoreless frames in the fifth and sixth with a couple of strikeouts. The Roadrunners brought home a run on an RBI single by Killeen in the sixth to cut Louisiana Tech's lead to 6-3. 
 
The Bulldogs then extended their lead to 7-3 in the bottom of the seventh with a wild pitch.
 
The Roadrunners used two solo home runs by Valdez in the eighth and Shane Sirdashney in the ninth to get within two runs, but UTSA ultimately fell to Louisiana Tech, 7-5, in the series finale. 
 
ON DECK
The Roadrunners will move on to the Conference USA Championships on May 24-28 in Houston at Reckling Park. The bracket will be released shortly after the conclusion of today's final league game.
