LEWISVILLE, Texas — UTSA associate head coach, pass game coordinator and wide receivers coach Joe Price has been named to the Dave Campbell's Texas Football 40 Under 40 list.
Price is one of 15 college coaches from the state of Texas chosen for this year's list featured in the 2023 summer preview edition of the magazine. This marks the third consecutive year a UTSA coach has been honored, as Price joins running backs coach/NFL liaison Julian Griffin (2021) and former co-offensive coordinator Will Stein (2022).
Price is in his fourth year on the UTSA staff and first as associate head coach and pass game coordinator. He is entering his second season coaching the wide receivers after spending two years as the director of player personnel.
During his time in San Antonio, the Roadrunners have posted a 30-10 record, won back-to-back conference championships and made three bowl appearances.
In his first season mentoring the wide receivers, Joshua Cephus, De'Corian Clark and Zakhari Franklin combined to give UTSA arguably the most productive pass-catching trio in the FBS. The three all-conference selections combined to catch 232 passes for 2,862 yards and 29 touchdowns. Franklin earned first-team all-league and honorable mention All-America accolades after eclipsing his own school standards from 2021 with 94 receptions, 1,136 yards and 15 TDs. Cephus collected second-team all-conference honors after hauling in 87 passes for 985 yards and six scores. Clark also was named to the C-USA Second Team after piling up 741 yards and eight touchdowns on 51 receptions despite missing the last five contests due to a season-ending injury.
A former Texas high school coach, Price spent the 2020 and 2021 seasons as director of player personnel. He was responsible for initial identification and evaluation of prospects, managing the prospect video database, oversight of the day-to-day recruiting operations, organization of recruiting events and materials and assisting with roster management.
The Roadrunners will kick off their 13th season of play and first as a member of the American Athletic Conference on Saturday, Sept. 2, when travel to Houston to face the Cougars at 6 p.m. at TDECU Stadium.
UTSA will face Texas State for the home opener at 2:30 p.m. the following Saturday at the Alamodome. The Roadrunners also will host Army at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, UAB on Oct. 14, East Carolina on Oct. 28, Rice on Nov. 11 and South Florida at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17.

Under the direction of two-time conference coach of the year Jeff Traylor, the Roadrunners are coming off an 11-3 campaign that saw them capture their second straight Conference USA Championship and play in a bowl game for the third year in a row. UTSA has been ranked in the top 25 in each of the last two seasons and boasts a combined 23 wins over that span, the fourth-best total among all FBS teams behind only Georgia (29), Michigan (25) and Alabama (24).
