UTSA volleyball to host intrasquad scrimmage, fundraiser to follow

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA volleyball program will invite fans into the Convocation Center for the first time in 2023 as they host their annual intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday, August 12th, at 2 p.m. Fans will be invited to a meet-and-greet at Big'z Burger Joint shortly after the match from 4-6 p.m.
 
"Come get the first look at the 2023 team, said coach Carol Price-Torok on the upcoming event. "We have a dynamic group of returners and new faces in the gym. We will be showcasing a fast-paced style of volleyball that will bring excitement back to the Convo! Immediately following the scrimmage, we will be having a player meet and greet along with an autograph signing at Big'z Burger Joint. It is a great opportunity for the fans to get to know the new team and share our excitement for the new season!"
 
Fans will get a sneak peek at what's to come in the 2023 season with a refreshed squad featuring eight newcomers and four first-year students. Makenna WiepertPeyton TurnerKai Bailey, and Miranda Putnicki will all get their first taste of collegiate action, while senior Aliah Giroux, sophomore Mia Soerensen, junior Ellie Turner, and classmate Faye Wilbricht will don UTSA colors for the first time in their career.
 
Senior Alicia Coppedge has spent the most time in the Convo, returning with three letters, while junior Mekaila Aupiu and junior Brooke Hirsch have each spent two seasons at UTSA. Rounding out this year's roster, senior   Cansu Günaydin and Makayla Smith join junior Cheyenne Hlady and sophomores Grace KingKatelyn KrienkeCaroline Krueger, and Kaitlin Leider with one letter apiece.
 
Following the scrimmage, Roadrunner fans can head to Big'z Burger Joint located at 5539 UTSA Boulevard, San Antonio, TX 78249, for a fundraising event that will contribute toward an upcoming European Tour that will allow the student-athletes to travel to Budapest, Maribor, Florence, Venice, and Rome across 10 days in May of 2024. As a part of the event, each player will be available for a meet-and-greet as well as an autograph signing.
