ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Brock Blais posted a 3-under-par scorecard in the final round and Hunter Bott finished in the top 25 to help the UTSA men’s golf team place 12th at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate, which wrapped up Tuesday at UNM Championship Course (par 72/7,546 yards).
Blais fired a 69 on the strength of four birdies to pace the lineup on the final day, helping the Roadrunners move into sole possession of 12th in the 20-team field. UTSA turned in a 6-over 870 to end up seven shots ahead of UTEP and 11 in front of Wyoming, while trailing Colorado by four strokes and 10th-place TCU by five.
Bott was the highest-finishing Roadrunner, grabbing a share of 24th at 1-under 215. The senior from Montgomery, Texas, registered his second 73 of the week after logging a 3-under 69 on Monday afternoon. The all-conference performer recorded four birdies in his final round and led UTSA with 13 for the week.
Blais jumped 28 places into a tie for 43rd at 2-over 218 with his 3-under scorecard on Tuesday. After opening with a 76-73—149 on Monday, the freshman from Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, circled four numbers to counter one bogey on the day.
Jack Wehman also ended up in a tie for 43rd at 2-over par. Following a 72-75—147 he posted on Monday, the junior from Austin registered his best round of the week with a 1-under 71 that was keyed by four birdies.
David Harrison was one shot behind his teammates in a tie for 48th at 3-over 219. The senior from Trophy Club, Texas, carded a 2-over 74 with 16 pars after turning in a 73-72—145 on the opening day.
Walker Franklin rounded out the UTSA lineup in 102nd (79-81-77—237).
New Mexico claimed the team title with a 29-under 835, followed by Texas Tech (838), San Diego State (850), San Francisco (852) and UNLV (853).
Tyler Kowack of San Diego State won the individual crown with an 11-under 205 (72-66-67).
The Roadrunners will be back in action on Oct. 8-10 at The Carolina Cup in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
