UTSA heads to North Carolina for AAC Championship

Greenville, N.C. — The UTSA cross country teams head to Greenville, N.C., for the American Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday, October 28.

The meet will open with the men’s 8,000-meter run at 8:15 a.m. (CT)/9:15 a.m. (PT), followed by the women’s 6k at 9 a.m. (CT)/10 a.m. (PT). Results will be posted online on AthleticLIVE. The meet will be streamed on ESPN+ with Trevor Fulkerson and Hayden Cox on the call.

Hosted by East Carolina, the Roadrunners will run against conference opponents in Rice, UAB, Charlotte, Florida Atlantic, North Texas, Memphis, Tulsa, Wichita State, South Florida, SMU and Temple. This also marks the first AAC championship event that a UTSA Athletics team has participated in since joining the league this summer.

Tulsa has been a powerhouse in The American, winning the past nine men’s championships and past four women’s championships. Making the move to the league with UTSA this season, Charlotte won last season’s Conference USA championship on both the men’s and women’s side.

On the men’s team, Junior Colton Stunkard has led the Roadrunners in two of their three races this season. The Texas City, Texas, native hit a personal record time of 24:34.8 in the 8k race at the Arturo Barrios Invitational. On the women’s team, freshman and San Antonio native Melody Espinoza has led UTSA in all three meets, including a personal-best of 21:42.7 in the 6k race at the Arturo Barrios Invitational.

The Roadrunners will head to Fayetteville, Ark., to compete in the NCAA South Central Regional, hosted by the Arkansas Razorbacks at Agri Park on Friday, November 10.
