Roadrunners ready for Dale McNamara Invitational

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA women’s golf team will travel to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, to play in the Dale McNamara Invitational, which will be held on Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 9-10, at the Golf Club of Oklahoma (par 72/6,242 yards).

The Roadrunners will field a lineup of Daniela Abonce, Maria Bastarrica, Camryn Carreon, Morgan Ellison and Olivia Williams, while Hunter Nugent will compete as an individual.

UTSA is part of a 14-team field that include Abilene Christian, Arkansas State, BYU, Cal Poly, Colorado State, Kennesaw State, Nebraska, Oklahoma City, Oral Roberts, Sam Houston, South Florida, Southern Miss and host Tulsa.

There will be 36 holes played on Monday and 18 on Tuesday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start slated for both days. 

The Roadrunners have played in in the Dale McNamara Invitational three times previously, including finishing sixth at last year’s event. Carreon tied for sixth place after firing a 1-over-par 217 (75-71-71), while Ellison carded a 218 (75-69-74) to grab a share of 10th.

UTSA is coming off a fourth-place showing that saw Carreon capture her third career win at the Badger Invitational on Sept. 17-19 in Madison, Wisconsin.

Carreon fired a 9-under-par 207 to secure her third victory of the calendar year, as the senior from San Antonio carded a 9-under 207 (68-69-70) to claim top honors by one shot.

Williams finished in a tie for 10th with a 2-over 218 (73-74-71), while Abonce was 26th with a 222 (79-72-71).

Carreon leads the Roadrunners with a 69.67 stroke average this season and the 2023 NCAA San Antonio Regional champion has broken par in five of six rounds, including logging four sub-70 scorecards.

Abonce averages 71.0 per round and has registered UTSA’s top 54-hole total of the campaign, a 12-under 204 (68-68-68) to finish as runner-up at the Sam Golden Invitational on Sept. 11-12.

Williams, a sophomore from England, boasts a 73.0 scoring average and three par-or-better rounds this fall.

Ellison owns a 73.33 stroke average and a top finish of 13th at the Sam Golden Invitational after the junior from Georgia recorded a 7-under 209 (68-70-71).

Bastarrica, a freshman from Spain, has posted a 75.67 average and a top showing of 45th at the Sam Golden Invitational.
