UTSA concludes fall at Watanabe Classic

LAS VEGAS – The UTSA women’s tennis team concluded its fall tournament season at the Watanabe Classic on Nov. 10-12.

 

Day 1

In singles flight one, Ekua Youri defeated Long Beach State’s Justine Dondonay by sets of 6-4 and 6-2. Vittoria Baccino fell to Northern Arizona’s Patrycja Niewiadomska, 6-1 and 6-3. In flight two, Magda Tuells fell to LBSU’s Doga Akyurek. In flight three, Eva Beyebach fell to UNLV’s Coco Zhao by both sets of 6-3.

 

In doubles action, the duo of Youri and Baccino fell to LBSU’s Peppi Ramstedt and Rhona Cook, 6-3 in flight one. Tuells and Beyebach defeated Utah Tech’s Kylie Kezos and Ana Gutierrez Sampere, 7-5, in flight two.

 

Day 2

During the second round of the singles flight one, Ekua Youri fell to UNLV’s Salsa Aher by sets of 6-3 and 7-5. In the consolation round of flight one, Baccino battled through three sets with LBSU’s Rhona Cook, defeating her by sets of 6-4, 2-6 and 6-4. In the consolation round of flight two, Tuells fell to Utah Tech’s Mariana Berdecio. Eva Beyebach fell to Utah Tech’s Kylie Kezos in the consolation round of flight three.

 

In doubles action, Youri and Baccino defeated NAU’s Dolavee Tumthong and Awa Neyestani in the consolation round of flight one, 6-4. In flight two, Tuells and Beyebach fell to LBSU’s Doga Akyurek and Hana Becirovic Novak by 6-4.

 

Day 3

Youri took fourth place in the singles flight one, after falling to UNLV’s Zita Kovacs by 6-4 and 7-5. Baccino ended in sixth place after battling through three sets but ultimately being bested by LBSU’s Justine Dondonay (5-7, 6-4, 3-6). Tuells took seventh place in flight two by defeating Utah Tech’s Anna Sterk by default. Beyebach also took seventh place in flight three by defeating Utah Tech’s Olivia Bustos by default.

 

In doubles flight one, the duo of Youri and Baccino took fifth place by defeating NAU’s Daryna Shoshyna and Ana Karen Guadiana Campos, 6-3.
