Women's Basketball to visit Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for midweek tilt

The Roadrunners will battle the Islanders at 7 p.m. inside the Dugan Wellness Center

SAN ANTONIO — On Wednesday, the UTSA women's basketball team will make the trek to Corpus Christi, Texas, with a 7 p.m. matchup against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on the docket inside the Dugan Wellness Center. 

The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+, with Doug Kesterson providing play-by-play. Neal Raphael will deliver the radio call in the greater San Antonio area on The Bull 93.3 FM and worldwide on the iHeartRadio app

The Roadrunners (1-1, 0-0 AAC) split last week, first falling to Pac-12 foe Arizona State 70-55, before besting New Mexico State 58-55 in the home opener. 

A pair of freshmen starred for the 'Runners as Idara Udo and Aysia Procter delivered standout performances in their first week of collegiate competition. Udo currently leads the AAC in rebounds per game after averaging 10 across the contests despite coming off the bench. She first scored 10 points and hauled nine boards in against the Sun Devils before snagging 11 rebounds against the Aggies. Additionally, she swiped two steals and swatted four shots, including a last-second block to secure the win over NM State. 

Proctor, meanwhile, shot 75% from the field and dropped 21 points with a steal and 12 rebounds. 

Senior Elyssa Coleman successfully opened the season, working five blocks for the most in the American Athletic Conference and the 37th-most in the NCAA.

The Islanders (2-1, 0-0 SLC) participated in a trio of contests, earning wins over St. Thomas (TX) and Schreiner while falling to Texas A&M in College Station. TAMUCC averages 73.7 PPG, converting shots at a 39.4% clip, including 22% from beyond the arc.

Mireia Aguado has been the Islanders' leading scorer, logging 9.7 PPG, with Alecia Westbrook not far behind at 9.3 PPG. Westbrook also serves as the TAMUCC rebound leader with 7.7 RPG, and Violeta Verano spearheads the offense with a team-high 10 assists. 

Defensively, Aguado, Verano, and Tymberlin Criswell have all have recorded eight steals early in the season, and Torie Sevier tops the team with four blocks.
