HOUSTON – The UTSA women’s tennis team wrapped up another fall tournament at the Rice Invitational on Nov. 10-12.
Day 1
In doubles action, the Roadrunners played close matches, but were swept by Rice’s doubles pairs. Aleksandra Zlatarova and Cassie McLay fell to the Owls’ Federica Trevisan and Chie Kezuka, 6-3. Vittoria Baccino and Magda Tuells were bested, 6-4, by Darya Schwartzman and Saara Orav. Ekua Youri and Eva Beyebach fell to Divna Ratkovic and Anushka Ashar, 6-4.
UTSA picked up three wins in singles play on day one. Zlatarova defeated Houston’s Maria Dzemeshkevich by set scores of 6-3 and 6-1. McLay took down Houston’s Blanca Cortijo Parreno, 7-5 and 6-2. Freshman Ekua Youri earned a win over WKU’s Samantha Martinez by scores of 6-4 and 6-3.
Day 2
The Roadrunners swept WKU in doubles play on day two of the Rice Invitational. Zlatarova and McLay defeated Paola Cortez and Anna-Marie Kopecka, 6-4. Baccino and Tuells bested Sofia Blanco and Samantha Martinez by 6-4. Lastly, Youri and Beyebach won their match, 6-4, against Sayda Hernandez and Mariana Zegada.
In round two of doubles, Zlatarova and McLay battled but ultimately fell, 7-6, against UIW’s Ine Lamprecht and Ised Hernandez Leon. Baccino and Tuells fell, 6-4, to the Cardinals’ Lyric Bonilla and Amelie Montalvo.
UTSA earned a couple wins in the singles round. Youri defeated Rice’s Anushka Ashar by set scores of 6-1 and 6-2. Beyebach also earned a win over UT-Arlington’s Nika Novikova, 6-4 and 6-3.
Day 3
The third day of competition consisted of singles matches only. Beyebach battled through three sets with UIW’s Ine Lamprecht but eventually fell by set scores of 1-6, 7-5, 0-6. Baccino defeated WKU’s Paola Cortez by 7-5 and 6-2. Zlatarova was bested by WKU’s Rachel Hermanova in both sets of 6-4.

The Roadrunners conclude their fall season at the Watanabe Classic hosted by UNLV on Nov. 10-12.
