The 'Runners will battle the Aggies at 7 p.m. inside the Convocation Center

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA women's basketball team is set to compete inside the Convocation Center for the first time in the 2023-24 campaign as they welcome New Mexico State with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday. As a part of the festivities, the Roadrunner Pantry is hosting Fans-Giving, which will see the first 50 fans who donate a nonperishable food item obtain a free hat. Additionally, the first 50 students who arrive in the Convo will receive a limited edition "Birds Up Basketball" T-shirt.

The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with Karl Schoening providing play-by-play alongside former first-overall WNBA draft pick and All-American at Texas, Charli Collier. Neal Raphael will deliver the radio call in the greater San Antonio area on The Bull 93.3 FM and worldwide on the iHeartRadio app

The Roadrunners (0-1, 0-0 AAC) opened their season on Monday in Tempe, Arizona, as they fell to Pac-12 program Arizona State 70-55. In the game, newcomer Idara Udo was one rebound shy of a double-double performance to the tune of 10 points and nine boards.

Sophomore Maya Linton matched Udo with 10 points, representing a new career high, while sophomore Cheyenne Rowe and Udo tied for the game-lead in rebounds. Senior Kyra White recorded three blocks, marking the most in the American Athletic Conference on the week and the 25th-most nationally. Throughout the contest, Udo, Rowe, freshman Aysia Proctor, and senior Nissa Sam-Grant all made their Roadrunner debuts against the Sun Devils.

The Aggies (0-1, 0-0 C-USA), meanwhile, fell 68-57 to Arizona despite an impressive 22-point performance by Molly Kaiser that included a quartet of three-pointers. Sabou Gueye joined Kaiser in the double-digit scoring club with 13 points and put in a solid shift on defense with three steals.

NM State is coming off an 18-17 season that saw the Aggies go 10-8 in conference play before falling 63-61 in the Women's Basketball Invitational's championship game against California Baptist.
