IRVING, Texas – Officials from the American Athletic Conference office announced on Tuesday that UTSA freshman long jumper Ida Breigan has been named the AAC’s Field Co-Athlete of the Week – a first for her and for the Roadrunners program in their first year in the league.
Performing in her first collegiate competition and the first meet of UTSA’s indoor season, Breigan blew the competition away at the Lumberjack Team Challenge in Flagstaff, Ariz., not only setting the school record, but also a new American Athletic Conference all-time mark in the long jump with her event-winning third leap of 6.47m (21-2.75 ft.).
In addition, her mark registered as the No. 3 NCAA jump at the time and fifth this season as of January 23. On top of that, her jump also delivered the new Norwegian U23 record, coming up just 4 cm (1.5748 in.) short of the overall Norwegian indoor record that was set in 1967.
The Roadrunners are heading to Houston this weekend for two days of action at University of Houston’s Robert Platt Invitational, held Friday and Saturday, Jan. 26-27 at UH’s Yeoman Fieldhouse.
