by Alma Solis

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The UTSA women’s tennis team hit the road for its first road match of the season, heading up I-35 to face Texas State on Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Roadrunners opened up the spring campaign with a 2-0 record after defeating St. Mary’s (TX) by 7-0 on Jan. 18 and ACU by 6-1 on Jan. 19. UTSA has a combined 11-1 record in singles play and 5-0 doubles record. The top three singles courts of Aleksandra Zlatarova, Fatima Gutierrez and Vittoria Baccino, as well as No. 4 Ekua Youri and No. 6 Magda Tuells, each hold a 2-0 record.

The Roadrunners hold an 11-7 record over the Bobcats, after UTSA took a 4-1 win over Texas State on Feb. 12, 2023. The Roadrunners have won the last seven matchups with the Bobcats, dating back to the 2016 season. Texas State lost its season opener to North Florida, 6-1, on Jan. 20. The Bobcats ended last season with an 8-15 record, returning 9 players from that squad. No. 1 singles player Kiana Graham led the team with an 11-8 record last season.

The Roadrunners return to San Antonio next week, visiting UIW across town on Feb. 3 at 11 a.m. before hosting Sam Houston on Feb. 4 at 1 p.m.
