Avdeyev collects 50th win at UTSA, Roadrunners take down Utah

AUSTIN, Texas – Head coach Sergey Avdeyev notched his 50th win at UTSA as the men’s tennis team (2-2) concluded ITA Kickoff Weekend with a 4-1 victory over Utah (1-2) on Sunday at the Texas Tennis Center.

Utah took an early 1-0 advantage by winning the doubles point. The duo of Alan Magadan and Tomás Pinho opened up doubles play with a 6-2 win over Geronimo Busleiman and Bruno Kenn. The Utes evened the score with a win at court two. Coming down to the last court, Tiago Torres and Miguel Alonso battled through a tiebreaker with Dylan Applegate and Geramia Rossi, but ultimately fell, 7-6 (4).

In singles play, the Roadrunners battled back from the early setback. Evening the score at 1-1, Torres defeated Krenn by 6-1 and 6-2 at court two. No. 115 Pinho gained the advantage for UTSA with a victory over Jayson Blando at the third spot, 6-2 and 6-4. Danijal Muminovic took down Applegate at the fourth court, with set scores of 6-2 and 6-2, to put the Roadrunners within one point of the victory.

Back in the singles lineup at No. 6, Alonso battled through a first set of 7-5 against Rossi. The senior from Veracruz, Mexico, sealed the deal with a 6-2 second set, clinching the 4-1 win for UTSA over Utah.
