COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The UTSA softball team opened up competition at the Texas A&M Invitational on Thursday, suffering a pair of run-rule setbacks at the hands of Southeastern Louisiana and Kansas. SLU first took down the 'Runners 9-0, before Kansas won, 12-0.

The Roadrunners (2-10, 0-0 The American) will look to bounce back on Friday as they meet the Jayhawks at 9 a.m. inside Davis Diamond.

Game One vs Southeastern Louisiana

The Roadrunners fell to the Lady Lions (9-2, 0-0 SLC) via the run-rule, as senior Jamie Gilbert (1-3) got tagged with the loss and Cera Blanchard (3-0) the win.

UTSA was unable to push any runs across the plate, as sophomore Madi Hays picked up the squad's lone hit, while junior Jaylen Prichard reached base on a walk.

Gilbert fanned four and tossed two scoreless innings before SLU loaded up the bases and pushed five across in the top of the third. They added three more in the fourth, and UTSA couldn't dent the plate in the fifth, ending the contest early.

Game Two vs Kansas

The Roadrunners were defeated by the Jayhawks (5-5-1, 0-0 Big 12) in five innings, with freshman Meredith Schmitt (0-1) picking up the loss and Kasey Hamilton (1-4) the win.

Senior Kenzie Schultz and freshman Zelinda Camacho tossed back-to-back scoreless innings to open up the contest, with Camacho inducing a fly out to get out of a bases-loaded jam in the second. The Jayhawks, however, dented the plate in the third, taking a 9-0 lead, and added three more in the fourth to go up 12-0.

Sophomore Caton Letbetter slapped a single and swiped second in the bottom of the fifth before freshman Brenna Jahn walked to put a pair of Roadrunners on base. A groundout moved both runners into scoring position, but the threat did not come to pass as Kansas secured the 12-0 win.
