Roadrunners ready for Chevron Collegiate

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA women’s golf team will return to action this Monday-Tuesday, Feb. 26-27, at the Chevron Collegiate, which will be contested at the Golf Club of Houston (par 72/6,171 yards).

The Roadrunners will bring a lineup of Camryn Carreon, Maria Bastarrica, Morgan Ellison, Olivia Williams and Daniela Abonce to the 54-hole, stroke-play event. UTSA will compete against host and 29th-ranked Houston, Furman, Illinois, Indiana, No. 48 Iowa State, No. 44 Maryland, No. 41 North Texas, No. 33 Oklahoma State, No. 34 SMU, TCU, No. 38 Tennessee, No. 14 Texas A&M, Texas State, Texas Tech, No. 37 Tulsa and UNLV.

The field will play 36 holes on Monday and the final round is slated for Tuesday. The individual champion will be presented with a place in the Chevron Championship Pro-Am and an invitation to the pairings party.

UTSA is coming off its first-ever trip to The Bahamas earlier this month. Carreon tied for seventh place with a 2-over-par 218 (78-71-69) to log her 17th career top-10 finish and help lead the Roadrunners to ninth place at the Nexus Collegiate on Feb. 12-14.

Carreon paces the Roadrunners with a 70.39 stroke average and six top-20 showings this season. In fact, she has placed inside the top 10 three times with a pair of victories last fall.

Abonce owns the second-best scoring average on the team with a 73.44 mark. The Veracruz, Mexico, native opened her sophomore season with her top career finish, a runner-up showing at the Sam Golden Invitational after firing a 12-under 204 (68-68-68).

Olivia Williams boasts a 73.47 average and a top finish of 10th, which the sophomore from England turned in at the Badger Invitational after posting a 218 (73-74-71).

Morgan Ellison ranges just behind her teammate with a 73.78 stroke average. The junior from Georgia totes a pair of top-20 finishes, including a tie for 13th at the Sam Golden Invitational after she carded a 7-under 209 (68-70-71).

Bastarrica has logged a 74.94 scoring average in her debut campaign. The Spaniard tied for 25th while playing as an individual at the Nexus Collegiate for her top finish of the season.
