Roadrunners race up leaderboard on Monday at Dorado Beach Collegiate

DORADO, Puerto Rico — Keyed by a trio of 4-under-par scorecards, the UTSA men’s golf team raced up the leaderboard into a tie for fourth place on Monday at the Dorado Beach Collegiate at TPC Dorado Beach’s Sugarcane Course (par 72/7,112 yards).

Entering the day in seventh, the Roadrunners fired a 14-under 274, a four-shot improvement over their previous season-best round posted on Sunday, one that is now tied for the sixth-best team score in program history. UTSA shares fourth with West Virginia at 24-under 552, one shot behind Kent State and four back of second-place Ball State in the 17-team field led by host UNC Greensboro (539).

Brock Blais, David Harrison and Jack Wehman all turned in a 68, while Walker Franklin posted a 70 for the fourth counting score in UTSA’s best round since the 2022 Wyoming Cowboy Classic.

Wehman leads all Roadrunners in the individual standings, as the junior out of Austin is tied for fifth with a 9-under 135, good for the second-best 36-hole total in program history. After opening with a 67 on Sunday, he fired a 68 for his third straight and sixth overall par-or-better round of the season. Teeing off on No. 5 for the shotgun start, he opened with back-to-birdies and later posted two more on Nos. 11-12 during a bogey-free round. He is part of a six-way tie for fifth, five strokes off the pace of 14-under 130 (64-66) set by Kent State’s Chris Vandette.

Harrison’s career-best 68 helped the senior from Trophy Club, Texas, leap 32 places into a tie for 28th at 4-under 140. His Monday scorecard featured five birdies, including four on a six-hole stretch, and it marked a four-shot improvement from his opening-round 72.

Blais turned in the other 68 for the Roadrunners on the strength of six birdies, with four coming on the front side and two more on Nos. 13-14. After opening with a 73, the freshman from Florida is now part of a tie for 38th at 3-under 141.

Meanwhile, Hunter Bott is tied for 23rd at 5-under 139. The senior from Montgomery, Texas, added two more birdies to his weekly tally while registering an even-par 72 on Monday.

Franklin wrote down four birdies — including back-to-back on Nos. 1-2 — en route to his season-best 70. After shooting 72 on Sunday, the junior transfer now has a share of 48th at 2-under 142.

Playing as an individual, Bryson Thurston is tied for 85th (72-76—148).

The final round is scheduled for Tuesday.
