Breigan Named AAC Women’s Indoor Field Most Outstanding Performance

IRVING, Texas – UTSA track and field student-athlete Ida Breigan has been named one of two recognized as American Athletic Conference Women’s Indoor Most Outstanding Performance, officials from the conference office announced on Thursday.

Last weekend in Birmingham, Ala. at the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships, Breigan (Fredrikstad, Norway) not only won the women’s long jump, but set a new meet record after slipping behind following the fourth flight. Exceeding the challenge, the UTSA freshman added a full four inches (0.1m) to her fifth jump to win the title as a rookie with an NCAA-qualifying leap of 6.58m (21-7.25) – breaking her own AAC, UTSA and Norwegian National Indoor records by 2.5 inches in the process. She enters the NCAA Indoor Championships seeded third and has gone undefeated through her inaugural indoor campaign.

Breigan was named the AAC Freshman of the Year at the conclusion of the meet and was twice named AAC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week in three regular season appearances this year.

Breigan will represent the Roadrunners at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted at Boston’s The TRACK at new balance, Friday, March 8 and Saturday, March 9.
