SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA women's basketball team will compete in their final road competition of the season on Saturday, as the 'Runners are set to face Wichita State at 2 p.m. inside Charles Koch Arena.
The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+, and Neal Raphael will deliver the radio call in the greater San Antonio area on The Bull 93.3 FM and worldwide on the iHeartRadio app.
The Roadrunners (14-13, 8-8 The American) suffered a 60-53 setback at the hands of Memphis last time out, despite an impressive performance by senior Jordyn Jenkins. The loss put UTSA at .500 inside conference play and dropped them into a five-way tie for seventh.
Battling foul trouble, Jenkins scored 11 points with 11 rebounds, and redshirt junior Elyssa Coleman scored 10 with five rebounds.
UTSA has now climbed as high as fifth nationally with 16.5 offensive rebounds per game, while 45.5 total rebounds per game sit sixth. The 'Runners collect 10.0 more boards than their opponent on average, marking the eighth-highest figure in the NCAA, and 29.0 defensive rebounds per game are 22nd. Additionally, UTSA swats 4.7 blocks per game for the 28th-highest figure nationally, and a 36.3% field goal defense is 21st.
Senior Kyra White's 4.7 assists per game rank second in the AAC, while her 1.53 assist/turnover ratio is fourth and her 34.6 minutes per game are third. Coleman has blocked 42 shots across the campaign for the second-most in the league, and her 202 rebounds slot her 10th. Rounding out the 'Runners in the rankings, freshman Idara Udo collects 3.7 offensive rebounds per game for the fourth-highest in The American.
The Shockers (8-20, 4-12 The American) have fallen in their last two, first dropping a 78-48 contest to Charlotte before suffering an 88-84 overtime defeat against SMU.
UTSA and WSU met previously, as the 'Runners worked a 74-60 win thanks in large part to a stellar performance by Coleman. She was selected for the NCAA Starting Five after dropping 32 points and 19 rebounds on the Shockers, becoming the first member of the squad to record over 15 rebounds since Yuliyana Valcheva accomplished the feat against FIU on Feb. 6, 2021. She also represented the first 'Runner to score over 30 points since Jenkins dropped 33 in a matchup with FIU on Feb. 25, 2023.
Daniela Abies has been one of the league's top rebounders, hauling in 9.2 rebounds per game for the third-most in the conference. She also represents WSU's leading scoring as she, Salese Blow, and Tre'Zure Jobe join her in averaging double-figures.
