STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The UTSA women’s tennis team lost a hard-fought battle to Tarleton, 4-3, on Saturday at the Texans’ Potishman-Lard Tennis Courts in Stephenville, Texas.
The Roadrunners earned a victory at the second court as Magda Tuells and Ekua Youri took down the Texans’ duo of Elsa Boisson and Clara Sobius by 6-2. Tarleton responded with wins at the third court and first court, in that order, to earn the 1-0 lead.
The Texans earned the first singles point at the third court to extend their lead to 2-0. Earning the first point for UTSA, Fatima Gutierrez defeated Emma Persson at the top spot by set scores of 6-1 and 6-3. Tarleton followed this with a win at the fourth court to put the Texans just one point shy of clinching (3-1). Then, Ekua Youri earned a victory of 6-3 and 6-4 sets at the No. 5 spot against Sobius, cutting UTSA’s deficit to 3-2.
The Texans clinched the victory with a win at the second court. The teams agreed to play through to end the game as a 4-3 Tarleton win over UTSA. Eva Beyebach earned the win at the sixth court by sets of 6-0, 4-6 and 7-5.
The Roadrunners fall to a 9-5 record, while the Texans improve to a 9-1 record.
