MIAMI – The UTSA women’s tennis team fell to the No. 28 nationally ranked FIU Panthers by 4-0 on Sunday at the FIU Tennis Courts in Miami.
The Panthers took an early 1-0 advantage by winning the doubles point. Salma Loudili and Ekaterina Khairutdinova defeated Fatima Gutierrez and Ekua Youri by 6-2 at the second court. Then, FIU clinched the doubles point as the duo of Vittoria Baccino/Magda Tuells fell to Petja Drame/Aleksandra Simeva by 6-3.
In singles action, Baccino fell to Katerina Mandelikova by sets of 6-1 and 6-4 at the No. 3 spot. At the top spot, Gutierrez dropped her battle against Khairutdinova by sets of 6-3 and 6-2. Cassie McLay fell to Loudili by 6-3 and 6-1 at the fourth court as FIU swept UTSA, 4-0.
The Roadrunners fell to a 10-6 record, while FIU improved to a 12-2 record.
