HUMBLE, Texas — The UTSA men’s golf team closed out competition in the All-American Intercollegiate on Tuesday, finishing in 17th place in the 54-hole event at the Golf Club of Houston (par 72/7,067 yards).
Paced by Hunter Bott’s eighth consecutive top-25 finish, the Roadrunners recorded a 605 that included a 299 in the final round on Tuesday. UTSA ended up six shots ahead of American Athletic Conference foe Memphis and 24 strokes in front of Louisiana.
Bott ended up in a tie for 23rd at 5-over-par 221. He opened the week with a 1-under-par 71 and then followed a 74 posted Monday afternoon with a 76 today on the strength of birdies on both par fives on the front nine and a third on the 190-yard, par-3 14th hole. The senior from Montgomery, Texas, registered a team-high seven birdies and 36 pars for the tournament.
Brock Blais was four shots back of his teammate in a tie for 47th (225). The freshman from Florida posted one-stroke improvements in each round, opening with a 76 and closing with a 74 that featured a pair of birdies.
Meanwhile, David Harrison led all Roadrunners in Tuesday’s final round with an even-par 72 that was highlighted by 16 pars and a birdie on the 580-yard, par-5 15th. The senior from Trophy Club, Texas, grabbed a share of 60th with a 227 (77-78-72).
Bryson Thurston(76-79-77—232) and Walker Franklin (77-79-78—234) rounded out the UTSA line in 82nd and 85th, respectively.
No. 6 Texas Tech captured the team title with a 7-over 871 while UNLV’s Yuki Moriyama claimed individual medalist honors in a sudden-death playoff after tying Sam Houston’s Bret Gray at 5-under 211.
Christian Rodriguez played in the All-American Individual and finished 35th (81-81-78—240).
The Roadrunners will return to action on April 6-7 at The Aggie Invitational in Bryan, Texas.
