LARAMIE, Wyo. — Despite a stellar second half and a 28-point performance by senior Jordyn Jenkins, the UTSA women's basketball program's historic season came to a close as Wyoming bested the 'Runners 80-64 at Arena-Auditorium in the Second Round of the 2024 Postseason WNIT.
The Roadrunners (18-15, 10-8 The American) fell to the Cowgirls (17-14, 11-7 Mountain West), as UTSA outscored the opposition in the second half, 44-35, cutting a 25-point deficit down to 14. Jenkins was phenomenal, shooting 11-for-20 across the contest with four rebounds. Sophomore Sidney Love also performed well, charting 13 points with six boards.
The Cowgirls started hot, sinking back-to-back three-pointers en route to an 8-2 advantage early. Jenkins got a layup to fall, but Wyoming picked up right where they left off, using a seven-point surge to work a 15-4 lead midway through the frame. UTSA strung together four straight as freshman Idara Udo knocked down a pair from the charity stripe, and Love nailed a jumper to pull within seven. The Cowgirls responded swiftly, sparking an 11-0 run to take a 26-8 edge into the subsequent stanza.
Wyoming outscored UTSA 18-12 in the second quarter as six different Roadrunners logged points before heading into the locker room down 45-20.
The squads matched each other for the majority of the third, as Jenkins charted the first 12 UTSA points of the quarter reflecting a 57-32 score line. UTSA cut their deficit to 20, before a Cowgirl three-pointer capped off the period delivering a 64-41 edge entering the final frame.
The Roadrunners scored eight of the first 10 points in the fourth, ahead of a Love layup that prompted a 68-52 score line. Shortly after, Jenkins buried a triple, and freshman Aysia Proctor logged a layup that saw the UTSA deficit cut to 13. The comeback bid, however, fell short as Wyoming secured an 80-64 win and a berth in the WNIT Super Sixteen.
UTSA wraps up a milestone campaign that saw the program's first national postseason victory, their first postseason appearance in 15 years, and the most wins since the 2008-09 campaign.
