UTSA bested by #45 SMU to conclude season at AAC Championships

DALLAS – The UTSA women’s tennis concluded an impressive season with a tough 4-1 loss to No. 1 seed and 45th-ranked SMU in the quarterfinals of the American Athletic Conference Championships at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex on Friday morning in Dallas.

 

UTSA concludes its season with a 17-7 overall record, while SMU moves on to the semifinal round with an 11-11 overall record.

 

The Mustangs take the 1-0 advantage by winning the doubles point, but the Roadrunners put up a fight to get there. After SMU took the win at the third court, UTSA’s duo of Cassie McLay and Aleksandra Zlatarova won the top spot by 7-5 over Lana Mavor and Caroline McGinley. The Mustangs clinched the doubles point with a second court win.

 

SMU took a 2-0 lead by opening singles action with a win at the third court. UTSA got its first point of the match as Ekua Youri defeated McGinley by set scores of 6-1 and 6-4 at the fifth spot. The Mustangs took two more singles points at the fourth and sixth courts as UTSA fell to SMU by 4-1 in the quarterfinal matchup.
