‘Runners fall to Owls in Game Two

Junior Jaylen Prichard and redshirt freshman Madi Hays logged hits for the squad

BOCA RATON, Fla. — The UTSA softball team was defeated via the run rule on Saturday, as Florida Atlantic claimed an 8-0 victory in American Athletic Conference action at the FAU Softball Stadium.

The Roadrunners (12-36. 3-17 The American) were defeated by the Owls (35-12, 15-5 The American) as sophomore Reagan Smith (2-4) was tagged with the loss, while Trinity Schlotterbeck (15-4) earned the win. Additionally, junior Jaylen Prichard and redshirt freshman Madi Hays each logged hits for the ‘Runners.

UTSA threatened in the top of the first as Prichard singled, and senior Taylor Jensen walked to put two on with one out. FAU, however, induced a double play to escape the inning unscathed. The Owls then put a crooked number up in the home half, as a single through the middle of the infield saw a 2-0 score line.

Florida Atlantic added one in the second before Smith stranded the bases loaded. FAU dented the plate again in the third for a 4-0 Owl edge, and in the sixth, a two-run home run increased the FAU total to six. They then used two additional scores in the stanza to halt the game early and secure an 8-0 run-rule victory.

The squads will face each other once more at the FAU Softball Complex, with a Sunday contest slated for 11 a.m. C.T.
