‘Runners fall to Golden Hurricane in game one

Senior Erykah Guerrero and junior Jaylen Prichard logged hits for the squad

TULSA, Okla. — The UTSA softball team suffered a 10-0 run-rule defeat at the hands of Tulsa on Friday, in what represented an American Athletic Conference series opener at the Collins Family Softball Complex.

The Roadrunners (13-38, 3-19 The American) fell to the Golden Hurricane (28-18, 13-9 The American), as senior Jamie Gilbert (6-16) suffered the loss, while Maura Moore (11-6) earned the win. Senior Erykah Guerrero and junior Jaylen Prichard each logged hits for the ‘Runners in the effort.

The Golden Hurricane struck first, using a leadoff double and a bunt single to put runners on the corners. A sac fly and a Roadrunner miscue followed, issuing a 2-0 Tulsa advantage.

UTSA threatened in the top of the second, as Guerrero walloped a leadoff double and made her way to third on a sophomore Madison Lenton sacrifice. The threat, however, did not come to pass as Moore found a pair of outs to keep their lead intact.

TU added to their total in the third courtesy of a two-out, two-run home run that doubled the Golden Hurricane total and saw a 4-0 lead. They then tacked on six in the fourth, propelling the squad to a 10-0 run-rule victory.

Due to expected severe weather, UTSA and Tulsa will now meet on Saturday at 11 a.m., ahead of the finale Sunday at 1 p.m.
