BRYAN, Texas — Hunter Bott registered his fourth top-10 finish of the season to help guide the UTSA men’s golf team to a tie for fifth place at The Aggie Invitational, which wrapped up Sunday at Traditions Club (par 72/7,227 yards).
Bott grabbed a share of seventh place and the Roadrunners ended up in a deadlock with 46th-ranked Louisville in fifth place to notch their fourth top-five team showing of the campaign.
Bott carded a 4-over-par 220, good for a tie with Sam Houston’s Bret Gray for seventh in the 76-man field, only three shots behind the individual champions, Jamie Montojo of Texas A&M and Niilo Maki-Petaja of Louisiana Tech. The senior from Montgomery, Texas, opened the weekend with a 3-under 69 followed by a 76 on Saturday before posting a 75 today that was highlighted by a birdie on the 381-yard, par-4 13th hole. The all-conference performer finished the week with eight birdies and played the par fives at 1-under par.
Behind Bott’s top 10, UTSA registered a 900 (292-309-299) to end up only one stroke behind No. 30 LSU while placing ahead of Louisiana (906), American Athletic Conference foe Memphis (910), Louisiana Tech (910) and Florida Gulf Coast (911) in the 12-team field. No. 44 Baylor (878) claimed the team title ahead of host and 23rd-ranked Texas A&M (884).
A trio of Roadrunners finished as part of a tie for 32nd with a 229.
David Harrison paced UTSA in the final round with a 2-over 74 that featured three birdies on a five-hole stretch. The senior from Trophy Club, Texas, opened the event with a 74-81—155 on Saturday before jumping 13 places up the leaderboard on the final day.
Jack Wehman bounced back from a pair of 77s on Saturday with a 3-over 75 that included birdies on the 439-yard, par-4 ninth and 444-yard, par-4 18th holes.
Brock Blais also turned in a 75 on Sunday on the strength of three birdies, including back-to-back on Nos. 7-8. The freshman from Florida also posted a 75 in the opening round before settling for a 79 on Saturday afternoon.
Walker Franklin rounded out the UTSA lineup in a tie for 44th (74-77-81).
Playing as an individual, Bryson Thurston tied for 66th (77-77-85—239).
The Roadrunners will travel to Belleair, Florida, to compete in the American Athletic Conference Championship on April 19-21 at Pelican Golf Club.
