CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Camryn Carreon logged her 20th par-or-better scorecard to lead the UTSA women’s golf team on the second day of the Chattanooga Classic on Monday at Council Fire Golf Course (par 71/5,955 yards).

Carreon fired a 1-under-par 70 to help the Roadrunners register a 4-over 288 in the second round. That marked a nine-stroke improvement from Sunday’s 297 and UTSA remained in eighth place in the team standings with a 585, seven shots ahead of No. 49 Colorado State and Xavier. The Roadrunners are only two behind host Chattanooga and four out of a tie for fifth between North Florida and Campbell in the 16-team field led by No. No. 34 South Florida and 39th-ranked Michigan (570).

Carreon bounced back from an opening-round 76 with a red number on the second day of the 54-hole event. The senior all-conference performer from San Antonio had eight pars and a pair of bogeys through the first 10 holes before finishing the day with three birdies on a bogey-free stretch. The 71 helped the 2023 NCAA San Antonio Regional champion move into a tie for 22nd at 4-over 146.

Maria Bastarrica also is part of the tie for 22nd after carding a 1-over 72 on Monday. The freshman from Spain birdied the 361-yard, par-4 12th and 354-yard, par-4 17th holes in her second round, which was a two-stroke improvement from her opening 18 holes.

Daniela Abonce posted the second-best score of the day for UTSA with an even-par 71 that featured five birdies, including three in a row on Nos. 2-4. After turning in the 13th par-or-better score of her sophomore season, the Veracruz, Mexico, native sits in a tie for 26th at 5-over 147 with 18 holes remaining on Tuesday.

Morgan Ellison (72-78—150) and Olivia Williams (75-75—150) round out the UTSA lineup in a tie for 39th.

The final round is scheduled for a 7:30 a.m. CT shotgun start on Tuesday.
