CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Camryn Carreon registered her ninth top-20 finish of the season to help lead the UTSA women’s golf team to 10th place at the Chattanooga Classic, which concluded Tuesday at Council Fire Golf Course (par 71/5,955 yards).
Carreon finished in a tie for 13th with a 4-over-par 217, while the Roadrunners recorded an 889 (297-288-304) to end up in sole possession of 10th, five shots ahead of Xavier and two behind host Chattanooga in the 16-team field.
Battling cool and rainy conditions, Carreon fired an even-par 71 in the final round to move up nine spots into a deadlock with Michigan’s Lauren Sung in the 88-player field. The senior from San Antonio wrote down 16 pars and a birdie on the 155-yard, par-3 third hole en route to turning in the 21st par-or-better scorecard of her final campaign. The 2023 NCAA San Antonio Regional medalist logged 40 pars — the second-best total in the tournament — and played the par threes at 1-under par for the week.
Daniela Abonce and Maria Bastarrica ended up in a tie for 39th. After opening the event with rounds of 76 and 71, Abonce, a sophomore from Mexico, carded a 78 that was highlighted by a birdie on the 373-yard, par-4 sixth hole. Bastarrica, a freshman from Spain, posted a 79 that featured a pair of birdies in the final round after starting the week with a 74-72—146.
Morgan Ellison, a junior out of Georgia, tied for 50th with a 227 (72-78-77), closing out the event with a trio of birdies in her final round.
Olivia Williams was one shot behind Ellison with a share of 53rd. The sophomore from England recorded back-to-back 75s to start the tournament before settling for a 78 that included two birdies on Tuesday.
No. 39 Michigan captured the team title with an 855 behind individual medalist Monet Chun, who fired a 10-under 203 (74-61-68).
The Roadrunners will return to action on April 15-17 when they travel to Brooksville, Florida, for the American Athletic Conference Championship.
