Gutierrez named to Women’s Tennis All-AAC Team

IRVING, Texas – Sophomore Fatima Gutierrez of the UTSA women’s tennis team has earned a spot on the American Athletic Conference All-Conference Team, announced the conference office on Wednesday.

This marks Gutierrez’s first all-conference accolade since she joined the Roadrunners as a true freshman in the fall of 2022. In two seasons, she has collected 20 singles wins and 23 doubles wins.

"We’re absolutely thrilled for Fatima,” coach Ki Kroll stated. “Being selected for the All-Conference team is a tremendous honor and a testament to her outstanding contributions to our team. I'm very proud of her. Birds Up!"

A native of Zapopan, Mexico, Gutierrez put together a phenomenal sophomore campaign as she toted a 11-5 record in singles play and 12-7 record in doubles action. She started the spring season playing at the second singles spot, before she transitioned to the first singles court. In her final eight matches, she went undefeated at the No. 1 spot.

In doubles action, she mainly partnered with freshman Ekua Youri and they held a team-leading 10-4 record together at the second court. Gutierrez collected 12 doubles victories total.

In 2024, the Roadrunners collected their most wins (17) since the 2003 season and Gutierrez was a big contributor in that. The Prepanet High School product has been clutch for UTSA this season, recording six match-clinching points.
