Paired in the same group and starting on No. 10, the two Roadrunners each posted four-shot improvements from Monday’s opening-round scores.

Entering the day with a share of 39th at 4-over par, Abonce bounced back from bogeys on two of her first three holes with a birdie on the 331-yard, par-4 13th followed by four pars and then a four on the 444-yard, par-5 18th to get back to even for the day.

Abonce then headed to the front side of the course where she had to settle for a bogey on No. 1 before writing down a two on the 165-yard, par-3 second. The 2024 American Athletic Conference champion then followed a par on the third with her fourth birdie of the day, a three on the 356-yard fourth that pushed her to 1-under for the round. She then closed the day with a bogey and four pars.

Meanwhile, Carreon is two shots behind her teammate with 18 holes remaining after starting the day in a deadlock for 46th. The 2023 NCAA San Antonio Regional champion overcame a slow start that saw her record four pars and three bogeys through the first seven holes before logging a birdie-three on the 371-yard 17th and a par-five on No. 18.

Carreon then opened the front side of the course with five consecutive pars before circling her number on back-to-back holes with a three on the 354-yard sixth and a two on the 163-yard seventh. The four-time all-conference performer from San Antonio rounded out the day by going par-bogey on Nos. 8-9 for a 1-under 35 on the front en route to her 73.

LSU’s Ingrid Lindblad leads all players at 8-under 136 (68-68), while SMU has the 36-hole team lead at 6-under 570 (286-284).

The top five teams (30 total) and the low individual not on an advancing team (six total) from each regional site will advance to compete in the national championships on May 17-22 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.

The final round is slated for Wednesday with Abonce and Carreon both teeing off from No. 1 at 9:40 a.m.
