UTSA adds Logan Vargas to signing class

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA head men’s golf coach Matt Wernecke on Wednesday announced that the program has signed Logan Vargas, a transfer from Odessa College who began his collegiate career at Houston. The Lubbock, Texas, native will join the Roadrunners beginning with the 2024-25 season.

“Logan will bring in a lot of experience and a winning track record,” Wernecke said. “He has enjoyed both team and individual success throughout his career. We look forward to adding Logan to the program."

Vargas is the fifth member of the signing class, joining Kaelen Dulany (Keller, Texas/Keller HS/Arkansas), Jacob King (Boerne, Texas/Champion HS/New Mexico), David Martinez (Houston, Texas/Memorial HS) and Logan Zurn (Grapevine, Texas/Midland College)

Transfer from Odessa College who will have two years of eligibility remaining … helped lead the Wranglers to a runner-up finish at the 2024 NJCAA National Championship after tying for 11th with a 72-70-70-70—282 … helped guide Odessa to the South Central District, NJCAA Region V, Southwest and Western Junior College Athletic Conference titles … started his collegiate career at Houston … appeared in a pair of events as true freshman in 2021-22 … posted an even-par 71 in his collegiate debut at the Bentwater Intercollegiate before finishing in a tie for 59th (231) … fired a 68 at University of New Mexico Golf Course to qualify for the 2021 U.S. Junior Championship … standout prep golfer at Frenship High School near Lubbock … tied for third place at the 2021 Region 1-6A Championship to qualify for the state tournament … led the Tigers to three consecutive District 2-6A championships before the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the remainder of the 2020 spring season … carded a 66-70—136 to lead the Tigers to their first team title at the Bill Wallace Memorial Tournament at Diamondback Golf Club in Abilene … posted a 146 to help guide Frenship to a third straight team title at The 36 at Hillcrest Tournament … shared runner-up honors at the Westrock Coffee Junior Championship after shooting a 70-69 —139 … tied for 10th with a 216 that included a 69 in the second round at the Callaway Golf Texas Junior Open … won the 2020 West Texas Classic.
