SAN ANTONIO – UTSA Director Track & Field/Cross Country Aaron Fox announced on Monday the addition of highly-decorated Estonian multi-event athlete Harry Jääger to join the Roadrunners later this year as part of the 2024-25 UTSA roster.
“I am excited to announce that 35-time Estonian national champion Harry Jääger is joining the team,” Fox said. “He is a seasoned multi-event champion that comes in with years of experience behind him. He will contribute immediately in the AAC and at NCAAs. We look forward to helping Harry achieve his goals on the track and in the classroom.”
A Spring 2024 graduate of Saku Gümnaasium in Estonia, Jääger was named the Best Estonian Track and Field Athlete in 2018 (U14) and 2022 (U18) and is a 35-time Estonian national champion. Jääger earned the decathlon victory 2022 Baltic U18 Combined Events Championships in Pärnu, Estonia, delivering a combined score of 7,257 points built on wins in the 1,500m (4:27.83), 110m hurdles (15.03), high jump (2.02m/6-7.5), pole vault (4.42m/14-6) and long jump (6.53m/21-5.25). That season, he also registered a career-best decathlon score of 7,334 points in a sixth-place finish at the European Athletics U18 Championships in Jerusalem, winning the 1,500m (4:29.04) and high jump (career-best 2.08m/6-9). He also topped the heptathlon field at the 2022 Estonian U18 Indoor Combined Events Championships with a career mark of 5,513 points in Tallinn, Estonia, going on to win the Baltic U18 Indoor CE Team Championships with 5,472 points in Šiauliai, Lithuania.
In 2023, Jääger again represented Estonia at the European Athletics U20 Championships in Jerusalem, while also finishing third in the decathlon at the Baltic U20 Combined Events Team Championships on a score of 6,756 – securing wins in the 400m (51.41) and pole vault (4.60m/15-1).
In January 2024, Jääger placed second in the Estonian U20 Indoor Combined Events Championships heptathlon on a score of 5,225 points, winning the 1,000m and the high jump, going on to collect second place in the event at the Baltic U20 Indoor Combined Events Team Championships in March. Individually, he was fifth in the high jump at the 2024 Estonian U20 Indoor Championships in February. He delivered his top career pole vault mark of 4.73m (15-6.25), en route to winning the Estonian U18 Combined Events Championships last July in Rakvere, Estonia.
