NORMAN, Okla. — UTSA’s Hunter Bott and David Harrison have been named 2023-24 NCAA Division I Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars, the Golf Coaches Association of American announced on Thursday.
Bott achieved All-America Scholar status for the fourth time in his career, while Harrison collected his third consecutive honor from the organization.
These two accolades come one month after both student-athletes landed on the 2024 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District® Academic All-District Men’s At-Large Team for their combined performances in competition and in the classroom.
Bott earned his bachelor’s degree in management in May with a 3.56 GPA. The Montgomery, Texas, native broke the program’s single-season stroke average record with a 71.94 mark in 35 rounds in 2023-24, a campaign that saw him log four top-10 finishes and nine top-25 showings. He recently wrapped up his UTSA career by playing in the NCAA postseason for the second time, as he tied for 35th at the Austin Regional after firing a 217 that included a 4-under-par 67, the lowest score posted by a Roadrunner in an NCAA postseason tournament. The two-time academic all-district honoree registered 14 par-or-better scorecards, including nine sub-70 rounds, during his final season.
Harrison received his bachelor’s degree in finance in May with a 3.60 GPA. A native of Trophy Club, Texas, he played in 11 tournaments and posted a 74.09 stroke average in 32 rounds during his final season. He turned in eight par-or-better scorecards and finished in the top 30 four times, including a pair of top 20s, in 2023-24. The 2023 Conference USA Spirit of Service Award recipient was heavily involved in community service, serving as President of UTSA’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for the past three years, as well as volunteering his time for numerous causes such as Kinetic Kids, CANtoberfest and Kid’s Involvement Network.
To be eligible for Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II and III and NAIA, or receiving their associate’s degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50% of their team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, under 78.0 in NCAA Division II, under 79.0 in NCAA Division III, under 78.0 in NAIA and under 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.
