‘Runners headed to Capital City for exhibition against Texas

First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. inside Gregory Gymnasium in Austin, Texas

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA volleyball team will visit two-time defending National Champion Texas for an exhibition bout set for Saturday at 1 p.m. inside Gregory Gymnasium in Austin, Texas. Admission for the match will be free, and doors will open one hour prior to first serve. Fans may park for free in the Speedway Garage.

Coming off a season of significant improvement, UTSA will face newly minted Southeastern Conference opponent and back-to-back National Champion, Texas. The Longhorns return VolleyballMag.com National Player of the Year Madison Skinner, along with outside hitter Jenna Wenaas, who totaled 313 kills across 2023. Texas also brings back setter Ella Swindle, who paced the team with 1,088 assists, and libero Emma Halter, who scooped 441 digs.

The ‘Runners, meanwhile are back after a 15-15 campaign that saw the most victories in a single-season since 2019. Opposite Mia Soerensen was named second-team All-American Athletic Conference as she propelled the UTSA offense with 336 kills. Middle blocker Alicia Coppedge piled up 115 blocks and the team swatted 2.43 blocks per set, a figure that ranked second in the league. Additionally, starting libero Aliah Giroux will return along with outside hitter Caroline Krueger, who topped the ‘Runners with 40 service aces that helped UTSA lead The American in aces per set at 1.67.
