UTSA will meet Longhorns in Austin on Aug. 17 at Gregory Gymnasium

AUSTIN, Texas–The UTSA volleyball team will visit two-time defending national champion Texas in an exhibition match on Saturday, Aug. 17. First serve is set for 1 p.m. inside Gregory Gymnasium in Austin. Admission to the contest will be free, and parking will be available free of charge in the Speedway Garage.

The two teams previously met in a spring exhibition at the Convocation Center, which saw 2,750-plus fans pack the facility as UTSA took two sets off the Longhorns. Texas holds a 9-0 advantage in regular season matchups, including a 6-0 mark in Austin.

UTSA head coach Carol Price-Torok will enter her third year at the program's helm, with the squad taking significant strides forward. The Roadrunners concluded the 2023 campaign with a 15-15 record, the most victories in a single season since 2019. The squad led the American Athletic Conference in aces per set (1.76) and was second in blocks per set (2.43). Both figures ranked in the top 50 in the nation at the conclusion of the regular season. Then-sophomore Mia Soerensen was named second-team all-AAC, marking UTSA's first selection since joining the league and the first second-team performer since 2018. Additionally, the Roadrunners recorded nine sweeps for the first time since accomplishing the feat in 2015.

Meanwhile, Texas head coach Jerritt Elliott wrapped up his 23rd season leading the Longhorns to their fifth national championship and third under his direction. He is the winningest coach in school history, going 589-114 with 17 trips to the NCAA Regional finals, 11 NCAA Semifinal appearances and seven NCAA Championship appearances (2009, 2012, 2015, 2016, 2020, 2022, and 2023).
