'Runners hit the road for SFA Tournament

UTSA will face McNeese, Stephen F. Austin and Boise State in Nacogdoches, Texas

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA volleyball team is back on the road, this time headed for Nacogdoches, Texas, where they'll compete against McNeese, Stephen F. Austin and Boise State at the SFA Tournament.

The 'Runners will meet the McNeese on Friday at 10 a.m., ahead of a 5 p.m. showdown with host-school SFA. UTSA then concludes the tournament at 11 a.m. on Saturday, facing Boise State.

The Roadrunners (5-5, 0-0 The American) went 2-1 at the Roadrunner Classic last time out, first sweeping Central Arkansas (25-23, 25-12, 26-24) before taking Alabama to five sets (27-25, 24-26, 22-25, 25-22, 15-12) and besting Sam Houston (25-20. 25-22. 22-25. 21-25, 18-16).

Newcomer Ally Tribe and junior Caroline Krueger were named to the all-tournament team, with Tribe also receiving recognition as the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week.

Tribe posted 3.80 kills per set across the contests, posting 16 kills against the Crimson Tide before logging 22 terminations at a .287 clip against the Bearkats. She also recorded a pair of service aces for 44.0 total points and charted eight blocks and eight digs.

Kreuger, meanwhile, posted two double-doubles and a squad-high 54 digs. On the weekend, she hit .293 and earned 41.0 total points.

One of the top defensive teams in the AAC, UTSA ranks 29th nationally with 92.5 total blocks, while a 2.43 blocks per set mark leads the league. The 'Runners also rank 36th nationally with 449 assists on the season and a .241 hitting percentage, which is second in The American.

The Cowgirls (4-5, 0-0 SLC) picked up a lone win over ULM (25-19, 25-20, 25-13) while losing to UT Arlington (25-15, 25-17, 25-20) and Santa Clara (25-16, 25-19, 25-13) at the UT Arlington Classic.

McKenzie Moore and Megan Grose were each named to the event's all-tournament team, and Moore serves as the squad leader with 133 terminations and 27.0 blocks. Grose tops the team in assists with 212, and Bailey Tilman leads the way with 148 digs.

The Ladyjacks (5-5, 0-0 SLC) will be looking to snap a five-game skid after taking on a trio of tough teams at the Tulsa Tournament. SFA couldn't overcome Oklahoma (25-16, 26-24, 25-18), Tulsa (19-25, 25-22, 25-16, 25-17) or No. 22 Arkansas (25-13, 25-13, 25-13) at the event.

Camryn Hill has powered the Ladyjack offense to the tune of 94 kills, while Jayden Flynn has recorded 195 assists and 15 service aces. Defensively, Natalie Guerrero has scooped 134 digs for the club, and Izabella Ortiz has worked 31 blocks.

Rounding out the group, the Broncos (6-3, 0-0 MW) went 2-1, earning victories over CSU Bakersfield (25- 20, 25-22, 25-18) and Gonzaga (25-12, 25-18, 20-25, 25-13). They fell to Idaho State (25-13, 22-25, 25-15, 25-22), with the match representing their only loss at the Boise State Classic.

The Broncos are one of the best-serving teams in the country, with 2.40 aces per set, ranking fifth in the NCAA. The squad has recorded 72 on the season, a figure heavily aided by Paige Bartsch and Breanna Mitchell, who have 18 apiece.

Bartsch has smashed 107 kills on the year, and Mitchell has dug 103 of the opposition's attacks to lead the team. Kiki Remensperger, meanwhile, tops the team with 169 assists, and Annie Kaminski has been dominant, leading the team with 33.0 blocks and an incredibly efficient .460 hitting percentage.
