IRVING, Texas – For the second time this season, UTSA soccer had a pair of players notch spots on the American Athletic Conference weekly honors, as officials from the league office announced Monday that Addy Johnson has been named AAC Freshman of the Week, while Sasjah Dade earned honorable mention, for efforts in helping UTSA to its fifth win via a 3-0 victory at Central Arkansas.
Receiving her first AAC Freshman of the Week award, Johnson (Fr., Forward, Edmond, Okla.) was instrumental in pushing UTSA to be one of only three AAC teams with at least five wins this week. The Oklahoma rookie stitched up a two-goal performance in the big road win at Central Arkansas, scoring her first career goal (37’) and then her second just 75 seconds later (38'), placing both her shots for the day against the Bears on goal. Johnson recorded the first brace for a UTSA player since Marlee Fray in the 2022 Conference USA Championship game against Florida Atlantic.
Earning AAC weekly Honorable Mention, Dade (Sr., Defender, Ontario, Calif.) anchored a Roadrunners defense that notched its fourth shutout of the year, holding the Bears to just two shots on goal out of nine total attempts. Dade also put herself in perfect position on a free kick from Sophie Morrin to fire the third and final UTSA goal past the UCA keeper in the 57th minute.
Johnson’s award marks the second major weekly conference award this season, the first going to Olivia Alvarez (Offensive Player of the Week) after a 2-0 start in week one. Dade joins Kameron Kloza and Jasmine Kessler in receiving Honorable Mention this season.
The Roadrunners open American Athletic Conference play this week, hosting UAB on Thursday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. in the Roadrunners’ Salute to Educators and Run as One game. The Roadrunners and Blazers battled to a 1-1 draw last season in Birmingham.
