Men’s Basketball announces non-conference dates for 2024-25

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA men’s basketball first-year head coach Austin Claunch announced on Monday the Roadrunners’ non-conference slate for his inaugural season leading the program. The 12-game non-league portion will include five contests at the Convocation Center throughout November and December.

UTSA will officially kick off the Claunch era on Monday, Nov. 4, taking on the Trinity Tigers on a cross-town trip to the Convocation Center. The Roadrunners are meeting the Tigers for the fourth time and the first since 2022, as Trinity is coming off a 23-4 finish in 2023-24, winning the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and appearing in the NCAA Division III tournament. Later that week, the Roadrunners will host North Dakota for the first series meeting with the Fighting Hawks, who went 18-14 last season as the program continues to build under sixth-year head coach Paul Sather.

The initial road trip for the Roadrunners is set for November 12, traveling to Peoria, Illinois for the first meeting with Bradley since 2017. The Braves were 23-12 a year ago and reached the second round of the NIT – reaching the postseason and winning at least 23 for the second straight year.

Back at the Convocation Center on Saturday, Nov. 16, UTSA will take the return game from Little Rock after dropping a close one last year in Arkansas. The Trojans finished last year at 21-13, playing in the Ro College Basketball Invitational after falling in the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Championship game.

Thanksgiving time will see UTSA on the road for the Trojan Turkey Tipoff in Troy, Alabama, set to face host Troy on Nov. 25 and then Merrimack on Nov. 27 before heading back to San Antonio. The Roadrunners will face Troy for the first time since 2011 and the Trojans went 20-12 last season. The first meeting with the Merrimack Warriors out of the Northeast Conference (NEC), who reached the NEC Championship final for each of the past two seasons, finishing 21-12 last year.

Back at the Convo to end November, UTSA will take the return game from Houston Christian on Saturday, Nov. 30. The Roadrunners defeated the Huskies last year in Houston for the third consecutive win in the series.

The longest road swing of the year follows as UTSA hits California for the first time since the 2016-17 season – heading to perennial West Coast Conference (WCC) contender St. Mary’s College (CA) on Dec. 3 in Moraga. The Gaels were 26-8 last year for their third consecutive season of 26+ wins and third straight NCAA tournament. The next opponent for UTSA pits the Roadrunners against the NCAA’s biggest offseason story – squaring off with likely-ranked Arkansas on Dec. 7 at historic Bud Walton Arena in Fayetteville. The Razorbacks were 16-17 last year, but that all goes out the window with the hiring of legendary coach John Calipari and the off-season roster moves from the coaching change.

The following week, UTSA will make an in-season return contest, traveling to Grand Forks, North Dakota for a Dec. 15 rematch with the UND Fighting Hawks.

UTSA’s non-conference home slate will close on Dec. 19 at the Convo with Southwestern Adventist coming down from Keene, Texas in a Hoops for the Holidays game. The last meeting with the Knights was in 2021.

Wrapping up 2024 dates ahead of American Athletic Conference play, UTSA travels deep into the northeast with a Dec. 29 rematch from last year with Army West Point in West Point, New York.
