MADISON, Wis. — The UTSA women’s golf team is in second place after the second round of the Badger Invitational on Monday at University Ridge Golf Course (par 72/6,248 yards).
The Roadrunners registered an 8-over-par 296 on the second day of the 54-hole tournament and they sit in runner-up position with a 15-over 591. Delaware leads the 13-team field with a 579 while UTSA has a two-shot advantage over third-place Sam Houston with 18 holes left to play.
Individually, Daniela Abonce and Sydney Bisgrove paced UTSA in the second round with even-par scorecards.
Abonce turned in a one-shot improvement from her opening-round 73 on strength of a pair of birdies. The junior from Mexico posted a three on the 376-yard first hole and countered back-to-back bogeys on Nos. 2-3 with a birdie on the 381-yard seventh before reeling off 11 consecutive pars to close out the day. The reigning American Athletic Conference Champion has a share of eighth place at 1-over 145, five strokes off the pace of Sam Houston’s Grace Jin (69-71—140).
Bisgrove wrote down three birdies en route to a 72 on Monday. The freshman from Calgary, Alberta, bounced back from a bogey on No. 3 with birdies on the fifth and seventh holes to help her record a 1-under 35 on the front nine. She then added another birdie on the 15th and now is in a tie for 51st (+13).
Olivia Williams moved into a tie for 24th at 6-over 150 after logging a 74 that was headlined by birdies on the fifth and seventh holes. Morgan Ellison is one shot behind her teammate in a tie for 26th at 7-over 151 (73-78), while Maria Bastarrica is in a deadlock for 30th place at 8-over 152 (73-79).
The final round is slated for a 9 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday.
