DENTON, Texas – The UTSA Volleyball team couldn’t overcome a potent North Texas squad as they fell 23-25, 25-12, 25-12, 25-13 in American Athletic Conference action at the UNT Volleyball Center

The Roadrunners (6-14, 0-6 The American) fell to the Mean Green (7-10, 4-2 The American), as junior Mia Soerensen paced the squad with 11 kills, while sophomore Peyton Turner tallied a match-high 21 digs. Freshman Morgen Durgens worked a double-double to the tune of 16 assists and 12 digs, while sophomore Annika Sokoldished out 15 helpers. Aiding the defense, senior Alicia Coppedge boasted three blocks.

In a tightly contested first frame, a slew of Soerensen terminations combined with a sophomore Kai Bailey kill and a Sokol ace for a 13-10 UTSA lead. Another ace shortly after saw an 18-13 advantage for the ‘Runners, and a Coppedge kill allowed the squad to win the race to 20. The Mean Green raced back to within one, but UTSA secured the opening set win with a successful freshman Ally Tribe attack, seeing a 25-23 win.

Multiple spurts helped UNT to an 11-7 edge before a Tribe kill pulled the Roadrunners within three. The Mean Green, however, snagged the subsequent nine rallies en route to a 25-12 victory.

The UNT momentum carried into the third, growing a 10-3 edge that the ‘Runners were unable to recover from. Following a 25-12 win, UNT cemented the match with a  25-13 final set.

UTSA will be back in action on Friday as they host UAB in a homecoming contest at 4 p.m. in the Convocation Center.
