UTSA in fifth through 36 holes of Dale McNamara Invitational

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — The UTSA women’s golf team is in fifth place through 36 holes of the Dale McNamara Invitational, which teed off on Monday at Cedar Ridge Country Club (par 71/6,366 yards).

After opening the two-day tournament with a 306 that had them in a tie for ninth place, the Roadrunners registered a 13-shot improvement with a 293 in round two to leap into sole possession of fifth, only four shots behind Oklahoma and five back of third-place BYU.

Individually, Morgan Ellison is in a tie for 19th at 6-over 148. The senior from Georgia led UTSA in the first round with a 4-over-par 75 that featured three birdies on a five-hole stretch on the front nine. She circled her number on both par threes on that side and also had a three on the 365-yard, par-4 third hole. She turned in a 2-over 72 that included 14 pars and her second birdie of the day on the 146-yard, par-3 second.

Sydney Bisgrove and Olivia Williams are part of a five-way deadlock for 25th at 8-over 150.

Bisgrove started her week with a 76 that was headlined by birdies on the 499-yard, par-5 14th and the 401-yard, par-4 17th holes. The freshman from Canada logged a two-stroke improvement in the afternoon with a 74 that included a birdie on the 374-yard, par-4 fourth.

Williams shot a 78 in the morning that was headlined by a birdie on No. 4. The junior out of England bounced back with UTSA’s low score of the day with a 1-over 72 that was highlighted by birdies on the 158-yard, par-3 sixth, the 366-yard, par-4 11h and the 150-yard, par-3 15th.

Daniela Abonce is one shot behind Bisgrove and Williams in a tie for 30th at 9-over 151. The junior from Mexico opened with a 77 before carding a 74 in the afternoon.

Maria Bastarrica rounds out the UTSA lineup in 77th on a day that was headlined by a 74 on the strength of four birdies.

Arkansas leads the 16-team field at even-par 568 (292-276) behind individual leader Reagan Zibilski, who is 6-under par (73-63—136).

The final round is slated for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday.
