Bare, Zurn pace UTSA on opening day of The Clerico

TULSA, Okla. — Brayden Bare and Logan Zurn are in the top 35 individuals and the UTSA men’s golf team is in 12th place after the opening day at The Clerico, which teed off on Monday at Oaks Country Club (par 70/6,950 yards) in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The Roadrunners are one of a few teams who did not finish the second round, which was suspended due to darkness. It will be resumed starting at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday followed by a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start for the final round.

Bare and Zurn have a share of 32nd place at 7-over par. Both players opened the 54-hole tournament with a 4-over 74. Bare, a redshirt sophomore from Waco, had 14 pars in his opening round, while Zurn, a junior from Grapevine, recorded a pair of birdies over his first 18 holes with a four on the 504-yard seventh and a two on the 178-yard 14th.

In the second round, Bare started with back-to-back birdies, writing down a three on both the 364-yard first and the 338-yard second. He is 3-over par through 15 holes in round two.

Zurn also sits at 3-over through 14 holes in his second round, which was headlined with his second birdie of the day on No. 7.

Kaelen Dulany is two shots back in a tie for 42nd at 9-over par. The sophomore out of Keller opened the week with a 76 that featured a birdie on the 605-yard, par-5 16th. He had a birdie on No. 8 and is 3-over par through 15 holes in the second round.

Logan Vargas and Walker Franklin round out the UTSA lineup in 55th and 60th, respectively.

Vargas carded a 77 on the strength of a two on the 133-yard, par-3 sixth in the morning round and the junior sits at 4-over par through 16 holes in round two.

Franklin posted birdies on his first two holes en route to a 78 in the opening round and the senior is also 4-over through 16 for his second round.

In the team standings, UTSA (+34) is six shots ahead of Kansas City and only four strokes behind Louisiana and six back of 10th-place Missouri.

Tournament host Oral Roberts has the day one lead at 4-over par, followed by UTEP (+11) and No. 30 Northwestern (+13) in the top three.
