Men’s basketball adds Exhibition at USC to the 2024-25 slate

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA men’s basketball team will unofficially kick off the 2024-25 season a little earlier than expected, announcing on Saturday that the Roadrunners will travel to Los Angeles in 10 days’ time to face the USC Trojans in an exhibition contest on Oct. 15.

Playing in a charity exhibition for the first meeting with the Trojans since 1983, UTSA will meet USC on Tuesday, Oct. 15, with a 7 p.m. PT (9 p.m. CT) tipoff at the Galen Center in Los Angeles, California. The Roadrunners last played at the venue on Dec. 15, 1983, under the late Don Eddy – UTSA’s first men’s basketball coach.

"We believe that basketball can do tremendous good for people and the community as a whole,” head coach Austin Claunch said. “We welcome the opportunity to participate in a charitable exhibition and couldn't pass up this opportunity to get out and test our guys early in a big-time road environment before we officially tip off this season.

“We're always pursuing opportunities to compete against high-level opponents and represent the university and UTSA Basketball's brand on the biggest platforms."

The exhibition contest will be streamed live via Big Ten Network broadcast on B1G+. For fans able to attend in Los Angeles, ticketing information will be announced as it becomes available and will be posted on the UTSA men’s basketball schedule page.

Heading into the first year under former Arkansas coach Eric Musselman, the Trojans finished the 2023-24 campaign at 15-18 overall, after going 22-11 in 2022-23.

The Roadrunners too head into the exhibition with a first-year head coach taking the reins, as Austin Claunch makes his unofficial UTSA debut with an overhauled roster that features 15 new players in the Blue and Orange. Claunch hit the ground running after wrapping up Alabama’s historic run to the Final Four as an assistant coach for the Crimson Tide. His past success at Nicholls State produced back-to-back Southland Conference Championships, an SLC Coach of the Year honor and 90 wins in five years leading the Colonels.

After returning from Los Angeles, the Roadrunners will officially kick off the 2024-25 season on Monday, Nov. 4, hosting a cross-town matchup with Trinity at the Convocation Center. Season tickets are on sale now.
