DALLAS — Logan Vargas finished in the top 50 individuals to help lead the UTSA men’s golf team to a 15th-place finish at the Trinity Forest Invitational, which concluded on Tuesday at Trinity Forest Golf Club (par 72/7,617 yards).
Vargas moved up eight places on the final day into a tie for 43rd at 2-over-par 218 (69-78-71) for his top finish of the fall, while the Roadrunners registered an 889 (294-300-295) to place 15th, only four strokes behind UT Arlington in the team race.
Vargas posted his second red number of the week on Tuesday, firing a 1-under 71 that featured six birdies. The junior from Lubbock wrote down a four on the 630-yard fifth and a three on 429-yard seventh as part of a bogey-free 34 on the front side. He circled his number on four holes on the back, including back-to-back birdies on Nos. 16-17. He finished the event with a team-high 10 birdies.
Kaelen Dulany was three shots behind his teammate in a tie for 56th with a 5-over 221. After opening the week with rounds of 75 and 74, the sophomore from nearby Keller carded an even-par 72 in the final round on the strength of three birdies, including two straight on Nos. 14-15.
Brayden Bare ended up with a share of 73rd at 9-over 225 (75-74-76) in his first collegiate tournament since April 2023. The redshirt sophomore from Waco recorded three birdies in the final round and finished with six for the week to go along with an eagle on the par-4 14th hole on Monday.
Walker Franklin and Jack Wehman rounded out the UTSA lineup in a tie for 85th (229). Franklin, a senior from Colorado, opened with a 75-78—153 and closed with a 76 that was highlighted by three of his nine birdies for the tournament. Wehman, a senior out of Austin, posted rounds of 79 and 74 before a 76 on Tuesday that included a pair of birdies.
Playing as an individual, Logan Zurn tied for 66th with a 7-over 223 (70-80-73). The junior transfer’s final-round 73 was highlighted by birdies on the 215-yard, par-3 eighth and 554-yard, par-5 10th holes.
UNLV captured the team title with an 830, followed by Loyola Marymount (832), SMU (834), USC (838) and Louisiana (846) in the top five.
SMU’s Zachary Kingsland claimed individual medalist honors with a 14-under 202 (69-67-66).
The Roadrunners will be back in action on Oct. 19-21 at the Fallen Oak Collegiate Invitational in Biloxi, Mississippi.
