SAN ANTONIO — With the 2024 UTSA Athletics Hall of Fame Class set to be honored during Homecoming Weekend, UTSA Athletics is profiling each of the five inductees leading up to the Induction Ceremony on Friday, Oct. 18. Former baseball standout Michael Rockett is featured today.
Rockett will join Derrick Gervin (men’s basketball), Monica Gibbs (women’s basketball), Starlite Williams (women’s basketball, track & field) and Teddy Williams (men’s track & field) as the second class inducted into the UTSA Athletics Hall of Fame.
The UTSA Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held on Friday, Oct. 18, at Pedrotti’s Ranch. Cocktail hour will begin at 6 p.m. followed by the ceremony at 7 p.m. Tables and individual seats for the event are on sale now by visiting https://giving.utsa.edu/halloffame.
The Hall of Fame plaques will be unveiled over the weekend at the Roadrunner Athletics Center of Excellence. The group also will be honored on the field during the Homecoming Game against Florida Atlantic on Saturday at the Alamodome.
These five inductees will join the inaugural class of McKenzie Adams (volleyball/women’s basketball), Devin Brown (men’s basketball), Larry Coker (football coach), Marcus Davenport (football), Lynn Hickey (athletics director) and Tameka Roberts (track & field/women’s basketball), who all were inducted in October 2023.

Baseball (2006-09)
An All-American and four-time all-conference outfielder, Michael Rockett was a star for the UTSA baseball team in 2006 to 2009, helping guide UTSA to back-to-back Southland Conference Championships.
Rockett, who hails from Sugar Land, Texas, earned second-team all-league and Freshman All-America accolades in 2006 after batting .352, scoring 32 runs and driving in 32. He repeated as a second-team all-conference outfielder in 2007 as a sophomore after hitting .325 with 80 hits, 15 doubles, eight home runs, 45 runs and 52 RBIs.
As a junior in 2008, Rockett was named a second-team All-American, ABCA All-Region, Southland Conference Player of the Year and first-team all-conference after hitting .360 with 25 doubles, five triples, 10 home runs, 68 RBIs and 60 runs. On March 1 of that year, he became the second Roadrunner to hit for the cycle, performing that feat over the first four innings of a 16-2 victory over Sacred Heart and eventually earning Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week and Southland Conference Hitter of the Week accolades.
Rockett landed on the All-Southland Conference First Team again in 2009 after batting .394 with 99 hits, 17 doubles, three triples, 15 home runs, 63 runs and 58 RBIs. A 2008 Academic All-District Second Team honoree and a three-time Southland Academic All-Conference selection, he finished his career with school records of 337 hits, 537 total bases, 200 runs, 210 RBIs and 64 doubles to go with a career .359 batting average, .571 slugging percentage, 11 triples, 38 home runs and 35 stolen bases in 223 games.
Rockett was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 13th round of the 2009 MLB Draft and went on to play in the minor leagues for four seasons.
