UTSA to host Tulane for Student Appreciation Night

First serve is set for 6 p.m. at the Convocation Center

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA volleyball team continues American Athletic Conference play on Wednesday, as they host Tulane at 6 p.m. in the Convocation Center. As a part of the festivities, the Roadrunners will be handing out free T-shirt vouchers at lunchtime on match day in the Sombrilla that can be redeemed between sets two and three for a free themed shirt, and the first 50 fans with an active student ID through the student entrance at the Convo's back lobby will receive free food.

The Roadrunners (6-11, 0-4 The American) will look to halt a six-match skid, after falling to East Carolina (25-19, 25-21, 25-21) and Charlotte (20-25, 25-23, 25-20, 11-25, 15-13) last time out.

Junior Caroline Krueger led the way offensively, converting 19 attacks and logging 20 digs over the week. Senior Aliah Giroux tallied 42 digs, including 26 in three sets against the Pirates, while sophomore Annika Sokol dished out 39 assists to top the team. Aiding the defense, classmate Kai Bailey recorded seven blocks.

On the season, the 'Runners have recorded 144.5 total blocks for the 42nd most in the NCAA, and 2.29 blocks per set are the second-most in the AAC. Bailey paces The American, swatting 1.14 of the opposition's attacks in each stanza, and Soerensen leads the way in total blocks with 65. Additionally, Giroux is second in the league, scooping 271 digs.

The Green Wave (9-7, 1-3 AAC) split last week, first besting UAB (25-18, 25-19, 25-20) before falling to Tulsa (26-24. 25-20. 25-19).

Sami Jacobs has dominated the Green Wave, leading the team with 24 aces, 217 digs and 177 kills. Sabrina Skyers has swatted 64.0 of the opponent’s attacks to top the team, while Zoe Rachow owns 298 assists and Katherine Crosley has 296.
