Overmyer named Freshman All-American by The Athletic

NEW YORK — UTSA tight end Patrick Overmyer has been named to The Athletic’s Freshman All-America First Team.

A product of Kingwood Park High School, Overmyer led all FBS freshman tight ends with 31 receptions for 283 yards and three touchdowns this season. He is one of four players from the American Athletic Conference to earn a spot on the first or second teams.

Overmyer opened his redshirt freshman campaign with three catches for 31 yards in back-to-back games versus Kennesaw State and Texas State. In the 38-24 win over Florida Atlantic on Oct. 19, he hauled in three passes for 47 yards including a 42-yard TD. He followed that with five grabs for 34 yards at Tulsa before catching his second touchdown pass of the year in the 44-36 victory over No. 25 Memphis.

Overmyer, who earlier this year was named a Go Bowling Military Bowl STEM Scholar-Athlete, posted season highs of six receptions and 56 yards in the 48-27 triumph over North Texas. He closed the year with four catches — including his third TD of the year — in the 44-15 win against Coastal Carolina in the Myrtle Beach Bowl.

Overmyer becomes the fifth Roadrunner to earn a Freshman All-America certificate, joining Sincere McCormick (2019), Trey Moore (2022), Jared Sackett (2017) and Josiah Tauaefa (2016).
